Description and Holding Information
1612, Lawes divine, morall and martiall, &c.
Laws entitled "For the Colony in Virginea Britannia Lawes Divine, Morall and Martiall", compiled by William Strachey and published in England in
1612. These were the rules and regulations issued in Jamestown under the order of the governor, who was appointed by the Virginia Company of London. Of
note, much of these rules dealt with military issues, and the punishments were harsh for many military and other infractions. A copy of the document
using modern font is found at: http://www.virtualjamestown.org/exist/cocoon/jamestown/laws/J1056 (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally
held by the Library of Congress).
