Bland. Discovery of New Brittaine. 1651
Treatise entitled "Discovery of New Brittaine," written by Edward Bland (merchant), Abraham Woode (Captain), Sackford Berster and Elias Pennant
(gentlemen), and printed in London in 1651. Included were maps and other illustrations; as well as a petition and order allowing Bland to explore the
Carolinas, provided he raised 100 men to accompany him. The treatise was used to raise this exploration group. Of note, Bland died in 1653, before he
was able to begin the expedition. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Henry E. Huntington Library in San Marino,
California).
Title:   The discovery of Nevv Brittaine : began August 27, Anno Dom. 1650 / by Edward Bland, merchant, Abraham Woode, captaine, Sackford Brewster, Elias Pennant, gentlemen from Fort Henry, at the head of Appamattuck River in Virginia, to the fals of Blandina, first river in New Brittaine, which runneth west, being 120. mile south-west, between 35. & 37. degrees (a pleasant country,) of temperate ayre and fertile soyle.
