1851, Purkins. Speech on the basis question
February 1851 speech by George W. Purkins of Halifax, delivered in the Virginia Reform Convention on the basis question. Of note, the delegates were
divided regarding the method of representation between the eastern and western sections of the state; Purkins expressed concerns if the power should
shift to the western part of the state. See LLMC #22175-79 for related documents. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by Duke
University Library).
