1776-05-06, Proceedings of the Convention of Delegates (1816)
The Proceedings of the Convention of Delegates held at the Capitol in Williamsburg from May 6, 1776 to July 5, 1776, reprinted in 1816 following a
resolution by the House of Delegates. Significantly, on May 15, 1776, the Convention declared that the "United Colonies free and independent states,"
and no longer under the control of Great Britain. In this same convention, resolutions for a declaration of rights, constitutional provisions and
