House. Comm. on Petitions from Am. Colonization Soc. Report, 1828?
1828? Report and substitute report of the House Committee on Petitions regarding the memorials and petition of the Societies Auxiliary of the
American Colonization Society, which solicited and assisted freed blacks to return to Africa. The majority report, which referred to various documents not
contained therein, resolved to provide a small annual sum in support of the society, as well as a tax on freed blacks to be used for its work. The
minority report was concerned with the undue influence of this "interference" and resolved not to give money to the society. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
