Comm. on Privileges & Elections. Case of Buttz v. Norton, 1869?
1870? Report from the Committee of Privileges and Elections regarding the contested election between Charles W. Buttz and F.S. Norton as a delegate
representing the county of James City and Williamsburg in the House. Butzz claimed that the winner, F.S. Norton, was an assumed name and did not
exist. Butzz also claimed that parts of Williamsburg voted in the wrong district. Regarding the latter point, no notice was given and thus the committee
did not consider this point. After investigation regarding the first point, the committee determined that F.S. Norton was Frederick Smith Norton and
voters were aware of his identity. Norton was entitled to his seat. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of
Congress).
