1895, Constitutional Convention Journal
|
|
Journal of the Constitutional Convention of South Carolina, held in Columbia from September 10 to December 4, 1895. In the opening day's speech, the temporary chair, Robert Aldrich discussed past conventions, referring to the 1868 constitution as "notoriously unconstitutional," and thus "invalid," as it was made by "aliens, [N}egroes, and natives without character." The convention then proceeded to make changes as the members thought appropriate. The second of the two volumes contained an index and other tables. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
