1866, Constitution, etc. adopted in Convention of 1865
South Carolina Constitution, along with ordinances and resolutions, adopted in the Convention of 1865. This constitution, following the
Confederacy's defeat, added Article IX, section 11 which acknowledged that slaves were emancipated; however, Article IV, section 1, allowed only free white men,
with other qualifications, to vote. Various sections of this document had separate indexes, and the constitution had explanatory summaries in the
