1777-08-13, Act permitting private distilling to supply to the Army
August 13, 1777 broadside issued by the Connecticut General Assembly which listed the act permitting private distilling to assist supplying the state
militia. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Yale University Library, New Haven, Connecticut).
Title:   At a General Assembly of the governor and company of the state of Connecticut, holden at Hartford, (by special order of his Excellency the governor) on the 13th day of August, anno Domini, 1777 : Resolved by this assembly, that his Excellency the governor, by and with the advice of the Council of Safety, be, and is hereby fully authorized and impowered to permit and allow any person or persons, to distil spiritous liquor, commonly called Geneva, or any other spirits, from wheat, rye, or indian-corn, for the use of the army, or the inhabitatnts of this state, to be sold and disposed of for the uses aforesaid, at such reasonable price as shall be affixed and agreed upon by the governor, and Council of Safety, with the person or persons obtaining such permission or allowance in manner aforesaid. ... / A true copy of record, examin'd by George Wyllys, secr'y.
