Explication des lois criminelles du Territoire d'Orleans ... par Lewis Kerr ... 1806. In August 1805, Governor William Claiborne was authorized by
the Territorial Legislature to arrange for a book on criminal law and procedure of the Territory in French and English. Claiborne prevailed on Kerr
to write the book. Claiborne was trying to graft the American/English judicial system onto the French system that had prevailed in Orleans for
several years. There is only a French title page, but all other pages alternate between English and French. The meat of the book is a description of
various crimes and how to adjudicate them. There is a long table of contents and a 57 page appendix of forms. (For the location of the original of
