Kerr, Criminal laws of the Terr. of Orleans, 1806 (Eng. & Fr.)
Explication des lois criminelles du Territoire d'Orleans ... par Lewis Kerr ... 1806. In August 1805, Governor William
Claiborne was authorized by the Territorial Legislature to arrange for a book on criminal law and procedure of the Territory in French and English. Claiborne prevailed on Kerr to write the book. Claiborne was trying to graft the American/English judicial system onto the French system that had prevailed in Orleans for several years. There is only a French title page, but all other pages alternate between English and French. The meat of the book is a description of various crimes and how to adjudicate them. There is a long table of contents and a 57 page appendix of forms.
