1756-06-04, Instructions given with Letters of Marque
June 6, 1756 set of instructions and supplemental instructions given with the letters of marque (a license to fit out an armed vessel and to commit
acts that would otherwise have constituted piracy) against France. Included are manuscript drafts of the documents. Of note, the first copy these
instructions appeared to have fire damage; the second copy is in very good condition. In addition, the second copy was found among the 1756 papers of
Arthur Dobbs, the governor of North Carolina from 1754 to 1765. See LLMC #21036-39 for related documents. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title
originally held by the New York State Library (c.1) and the Department of Archives and History in Raleigh, North Carolina (c.2) and the Historical
Society of Pennsylvania Library (supp. 1 & 2)).
