November 3, 1779 Proclamation by Congress, and adopted by the Council Chamber in Boston, setting December 9th as a day of thanksgiving to God for His
protection and for guidance to the public councils, as well as for a bountiful harvest. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of a title originally held

Title:   Proclamation : Whereas it becomes us humbly to approach the throne of Almighty God ... Resolved, that it be recommended to the several states to appoint Thursday the ninth day of December next to be a day of public and solemn thanksgiving ... Done in Congress the twentieth day of October ... one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine ... State of Massachusetts-Bay. Council-chamber in Boston, November 3, 1779. Agreeable to the above recommendation of the Honorable Continental Congress ... do hereby appoint Thursday the ninth day of December next, to be observed ... as a day of public thanksgiving and praise ...
