1841, Webster, Letter of resignation from the U.S. Senate

House No. 36 On February 16, 1841, the Governor forwarded a letter from Senator Daniel Webster. "Events being likely to take place which will necessarily cause my retirement from the Senate ...." [Webster was going to be Secretary of State] He was an adopted son of Massachusetts and had been honored to serve in House and the Senate for eighteen years.
