House No. 21 A petition written on January 18, 1841 from inhabitants of Great Barrington complaining that the procedure for claiming damages was prolonged and so expensive that the damage award was less than court costs. It would make more sense for multiple plaintiffs to join together in one case and have the jury see the result of a dam in person. It would be still better for the dam builder to acquire flowage rights by contract ahead of time. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
