1841-03-04, Receipt of the text of the Bible from the American Board of Foreign Missions

Senate No. 47 On March 4, 1841, the Legislature received a letter from S. T. Armstrong, transmitting a copy of the Holy Bible in the language of
the Sandwich [Hawaiian] Islands. In 1812, the Legislature had incorporated the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions whose task was to
propagate the gospel around the world. One quarter of the organization's funds were to go to creating Bibles in local languages. In honor of
Massachusetts' role in the effort, the Bible was a thank you gift to show the organization had done its job. The Joint Standing Committee on the Library
added the Bible to the library's collections. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
