1836, Memorial of the Directors of the State Bank
|
|
Senate No. 26 Memorial of the Directors of the State Bank. The Directors had been asked to come before the Banking Committee, and later told their attendance was compulsory. The Directors had no problem with the Committee examining the bank's books, because that was part of the law, but they were very uneasy about testifying in open session about the bank's business. All the Directors had sworn an oath not to talk about such business unless directed by a court. They were also concerned about their 5th amendment rights. The Committee could learn the information it wanted by examining the books. The Directors wanted a hearing about the issues. Ten men signed the memorial. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
