1836-01-29, Remonstrance of Charlestown against the Memorial of the Charles River Bridge Proprietors
SEE ALSO 52828 Senate No. 24 Remonstrance of the inhabitants of Charlestown against the memorial of the Charles River Bridge Proprietors. The
inhabitants of Charlestown presented their case. The Legislature provided a service to the citizens by creating a corporation to build and maintain the
bridge. The corporation reimbursed its expenses through a toll for use. Over the years, the tolls have paid for the bridge and then some, with
plenty left over for maintenance. The Charles River Proprietors have been sufficiently reimbursed--make the bridge free. (Digitized from a microfilm
copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
