1833-34, Memorials concerning the Marshpee Indians

SEE ALSO 52541, 52588, 52598 House No. 17 Missionary Phineas Fish of the Congregational Church on the Marshpee Plantation wrote asking for
protection from riotous residents. A second document was a letter in his favor from a group of residents. A Remonstrance of January 1, 1834 was from a
group protesting the presence of Apes, a Pequot Indian, who had incited the community to riot. The Governor had sent Mr. Fiske to investigate and
report, and Apes had been arrested, but he was out of jail and causing trouble again. Things were fine before this trouble and the group wished to know
what Mr. Fiske had said because they had had no word. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
