May 30, 1717 Rev. Cotton Mather's welcoming speech to Governor Samuel Shute, as well as the governor's response asserting his friendship and protection. Of note, Mather was a noted Puritan minister who had been a vigorous supporter of the Salem witch trials in 1692.
