June 1, 1774 broadside issued by Great Britain which responded to the Boston Tea Party by the passage of this act. The Alarming Boston Port Act closed its harbor and moved the seat of government to Salem, Massachusetts; significant penalties and other provisions were also listed against the "dangerous commotions and insurrections" in Boston. The alarming Boston port act : which prohibits the entry and clearance of all vessels whatsoever at that port, from the ensuing 1st day of June, 1774, and transfers the seat of government and of the custom-house to the town of Salem.
