1776-06-07, Resolution to further inform the towns in the colony

May 6, 1776 Resolves that towns should determine if they concur with resolves for independence and advising towns that have not yet met to do so. Of note, this is the first time the concept of independence from Britain was used officially. In the House of Representatives, June 7th, 1776 : a resolve of the late House of Representatives passed on the 10th of May, 1776, that the inhabitants of each town in this colony ought to be in full meeting warned for that purpose ... Therefore, resolved, as the opinion of this House, that such towns as have not complied ... duly warn a town-meeting for such purpose ...
