1835-10-02, Lieut. Governor's message relating to Rainsford Island

House, (Second session,) No. 9 In October 1835, the Lieutenant Governor sent a message about Rainsford Island. An agent had examined the island and
recommended a new wall such as the one being built by the federal government on George's Island. The Council had visited Rainsford and observed that
the last wall, built at a cost of $4365.64, was completely demolished, with its stones scattered around the beach. The state's agent had prepared
plans and estimated a cost of $13,500 for a proper wall. With the small $4500 appropriation, he will try to build part of the wall on the vulnerable
east end of the island by gathering the old stones. The Lieutenant Governor strongly recommended the committee visit the island. (Digitized from a
