1831, Governor's message including Alabama resolution on presidential nomination
|

Senate No. 9 Governor Lincoln sent the Legislature a resolution forwarded to him by the Governor of Alabama from Alabama's Legislature. The
resolution made Governor Lincoln uneasy. He thought the political climate tended toward states thinking they could get along without the federal government.
He warned that not speaking about where a particular idea might lead was a dereliction of duty in itself. On December 11, 1830, the Alabama
Legislature declared that Andrew Jackson had done an exemplary job as President and should be President again. They were pleased he had vetoed bills that

His Excellency the Governor of Alabama has forwarded to me a copy of certain resolutions adopted by the General Assembly of that state : and formally and officially approved by him, on the 11th of December last, which, although unaccompanied by the usual request that they should be laid before the Legislature of this Commonwealth, yet could have been transmitted for no other purposes, and are, therefore, from that courtesy which is due to the authority from which they emanate, now respectfully submitted to your consideration.
