1798-07-07, Labor agreement with merchant seamen
July 7, 1798 labor agreement between the owner of a ship (manuscript name difficult to decipher) and the merchant seaman at the Port of Saybrook,
Connecticut. Of note, significant portions of the document are missing or ripped. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the
Connecticut Historical Society Library).
Title:   It is agreed between the master, seamen or mariners of the [blank] master, now bound from the port of [blank] that in consideration of the monthly or other wages against each respective seaman or mariner's name hereunder set, they severally shall and will perform the above-mentioned voyage ; and the said master doth hereby agree with, and hire the said seamen and mariners for the said voyage, at such monthly wages, or prices, to be paid pursuant to this agreement, and the laws of the Congress of the United States of America, and the custom and usage of [blank] And they the said seamen or mariners do hereby promise and oblige themselves to do their duty, and obey the lawful commands of their officers ...
