Continental Legal History Series, published under the auspices of the Association of American Law Schools. As to authorship, it is complicated,
exemplified by the attibution to “Carl Ludwig von Bar and others” in the title. Ludwig von Bar’s work, Geschichte des deutschen Strafrechts und der
Strafrechtstheorien, forms the basis of the treatise, but portions of works by other scholars are interwoven where appropriate to the subject and are
acknowledged in footnotes. The general scheme and the identity of the many “others” and those of their works utilized is provided in the preface by Wigmore at
pp. xxxi-xxxiii.)
