British Rule and Jurisdiction Beyond the Seas: by Sir Henry Jenkyns, with a preface by Sir Courtney Ilbert and others before publication, xxiii+300p, Oxford, Clarendon Press, 1902. (This work was revised and added to after the death of the author in 1899 by Ilbert and others before publication, It is a theoretical treatise laying out the various forms of governmental structure prevailing in the British colonies and dependencies and the scope of mother-country authority applicable in each. Jenkyns wrote with great authority. He was over thirty years, 1869–1899, first the assistant and then the Chief Parliamentary Counsel to the Treasury. In these posts he was responsible for drafting, or supervising the drafting, of all government legislation, much of it of great import to the colonies, presented to the British Parliament during this fecund period.)
