1960, Bechuanaland Constitutional Proposals
Constitutional proposals for the Bechuanaland Protectorate, presented to Parliament by the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations in September
1960. Bechuanaland Protectorate was a protectorate established on March 1885, by Great Britain in Southern Africa and became the Republic of
Botswana on September 30, 1966. Of note, the proposed election of members were divided by race: European (white - 10 members), Asian (one), and African
(ten) had separate members and elections to the Legislative Council. Other members of the Council were nominated or based on offices held.
