The Law Lexicon of British India, Compiled and Edited by P. Ramanatha Aiyar. Published by The Madras Law Journal Office (Mylapore 1940). xiv + 1344 p. Contents include the Foreword and the Preface to the Encyclopaedic Law Lexicon of British India; a List of Important Books Consulted; and a single alphabetical dictionary, with definitions of terms, many with citations to cases (including Indian, English and American cases) from which definitions were drawn. (The Preface states that defined words include English Law terms and phrases; quasi-legal terms relating to science, art and commerce; provincial and vernacular terms used in Revenue Records and private documents; obsolete words not omitted; legislative definitions; judicial definitions; and legal maxims.)
