An analytical digest of all the reported cases decided in the Supreme Courts of Judicature in India; In the courts of the Honorable East-India Company; And on appeal from India by Her Majesty in Council; Together with an introduction, notes illustrative and explanatory, and an appendix: by William H. Morley, in three books, Vol. 1–2 London, William H. Allen, 1849–50, and N.S., V.1, same publ., 1852. (In Vol. 1, the Introduction, pp. i–cccxxii contains a thorough description of the complicated judicial system maintained by the East India Company as it evolved up through 1850. Pages 1-625 contain the Digest of Cases itself. Pages 627–738 contain a Glosary of Terms and an Index of Cases. Vol. 2 contains: In pp. 1–246, Sir Edward Hyde East’s notes on decided cases; In pp. 247–454, Sir Erskine Perry’s notes of decided cases; and in pp. 550–688, the charters of the Supreme Courts, and various inferior courts, at Ft. William in Bengal, 26 Mar. 1774; at Madras, 26 Dec. 1803; and at Bombay, 18 Dec. 1823. The third book, which is termed “New Series, Vol. 1,” is actually a supplement to the first two volumes, leading some law libraries, such as Los Angeles County, to catalog the three books as “Vol. 1-3.” The supplement volume carries coverage of the Digest of Cases in the original Vol. 1 up through 1850, and expands on the Introduction in Vol. 1 by describing changes in the court systems and other developments relative to the administration of justice in British India through 1850.)
