Senate. Committee on the Judiciary. Indian Crimes Act of 1975, [1976]
94th Congress, 2d Session, Senate Report No. 94-620. The Indian Crimes Act of 1975. Feb. 2, 1976. 7 p. This Judiciary Committee Report recommends
passage of S. 2129, a bill “to provide for the definition and punishment of certain crimes in accordance with the Federal laws in force within the
special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States when said crimes are committee by an Indian in order to insure equal treatment for Indian
and non-Indian offenders,” with several amendments to the language in the bill. (At p. 4: “To remedy the constitutional infirmities in the present
statutes the amended S. 2129 would, in effect, revert the Major Crimes Act to its pre-1966 form by amending 18 U.S.C. 1153 to insure equal treatment for
Indian defendants accused of committing aggravated assaults upon other Indians within Indian country.”)
