Message from the President of the United States, in reply to a resolution of the House of the 4th instant, in relation to any communication from the Governors of the States of Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee or Alabama, upon the subject of a Modification of the Cherokee Treaty of 1835. June 6, 1838, read and laid upon the table. The contents of this document include an exchange of letters between the Governor of Georgia, George R. Gilmer (May 28, 1838) and Joel R. Poinsett Secretary of War (June 3, 1838), with transmittal statements by the President and by Poinsett.
