Description and Holding Information
1736-10-25, Six Nations' release of claim to the Proprietors of Pennsylvania (1757) (MS)
This was a copy of two Six Nations agreements to sell an enormous amount of land to the proprietor of Pennsylvania, first made on October 11, 1736.
The lands on either side of the Susquehanna River, west to the setting sun and east to the source of the river, were released by the Six Nations to the
Proprietor. After several days of consideration, the Nations had Weyser draft, and they signed, on October 25, 1736, another promise to sell land
only to the Proprietor and no others. This promise was renewed in Albany some eighteen years later on July 9, 1754. (Digitized from a microfilm copy
held at the Pennsylvania State Historical Society)
