Articles of a Treaty between the United States and the Chippewa Indians of the Mississippi, and Lake Superior, October 4, 1842, 7 Stat. 591-595. (
Articles of a Treaty between the United States and the Chippewa Indians of the Mississippi, and Lake Superior in which the Indians cede the land
described in Article I. In consideration the U.S. agreed to pay the Chippewa Indians $12,500 annually for 25 years. $10,500 dollars in goods, and $2,000 in
provisions and tobacco. The annuity was to be equally divided between the Chippewas of the Mississippi and Lake Superior. The treaty was concluded at
La Pointe of Lake Superior in the Territory of Wisconsin on October 4, 1842.)
