Articles of Agreement and Convention between the United States and the Senecas and Shawnees, July 20, 1831, 7 Stat. 351-354. ( Articles of Agreement
and Convention between Senecas and Shawnees in which the Indians cede to the United States the land granted to them by the treaty concluded at the
foot of the rapids of the Miami River of Lake Erie on September 29, 1817, 7 Stat. 160 (LLMC 69829). The Seneca and Shawnee were granted land on the
western side of the Mississippi contiguous to the land granted to the Senecas of Sandusky by the Treaty of Washington, 7 Stat. 348 (LLMC 69903). The
Indians received $6,000 in lieu of improvements to the ceded land. The land granted to the Indians was not to be sold except to the United States. The
agreement was concluded on July 20, 1831 at Lewistown, Ohio).
Title:   Articles of agreement and convention, made and concluded at Lewistown, in the county of Logan, and state of Ohio, on the twentieth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-one / by and between James B. Gardiner, specially appointed commissioner on the part of the United States, and John McElvain, Indian agent for the Wyandots, Senecas and Shawnees, on the one part, and the undersigned principal chiefs and warriors of the mixed band of Senecas and Shawnee Indians residing at and around said Lewistown, of the other part.
