1837-12-20, Saganaw Tribe-U.S.
Articles of a Treaty between the United States and the Saganaw Tribe of Chippewas, December 20, 1837, 7 Stat. 547-549. ( Articles of a Treaty between
the United States and the Saganaw Tribe of Chippewas in which the Indians agreed to retain fifty cents per acre of every acre of land they ceded to
the U.S. by the Treaty of January 14, 1837, 7 Stat. 528 (LLMC 69960). This was an indemnification for the land they will receive for their future
permanent residence and a fund for emigrating to a reserve on the head waters of the Osage River. Nothing in this treaty required the U.S. to advance from
the Treasury the entire amount required by the January 14, 1837 treaty. The first and second articles of that treaty were abrogated, and the U.S.
agreed to pay the Tribe in 1838 and 1839 an annuity of five thousand dollars and goods valued at $10,000. The treaty was concluded at the Flint River in
the State of Michigan on December 20, 1837.)
