1834-10-23, Treaty between the United States of America and the Miami Tribe of Indians
Treaty between the United States of America and the Miami Tribe of Indians. Concluded October 23, 1834; ratified December 22, 1837. 7 p. Contents
include the proclamation of President Martin Van Buren; the text of the treaty; the list of those signing or affixing their mark to the agreement; a
statement that the then President Andrew Jackson did not approve of the agreement and that undersigned chiefs agreed to the entire cession made by the
treaty; a statement that the treaty and explanatory documents from the Department of War were submitted to the Senate, which gave its advice and consent
to the treaty, with amendments; that the amendments were submitted to the chiefs and warriors of the Miami tribe, and the chiefs and warriors assented
to the amendments; and the statement by president Van Buren acknowledging the Senate resolution of October 12, 1837, and ratifying the treaty.
