1756-06-14, Governor Morris' answer to the Indian Sachem Ogaghradarisha (MS)
SEE ALSO 56729, 56730 Wrapper: Copy No. 11 Governor Morris's answer to what was delivered by the Indian Ogagradarisha to Col. Clapham dated 14th
June 1756. Header: the answer of Governor Morris to what was delivered to Col. Clapham by the Indian Sachem Ogagradarisha at the camp at Armstrong's
on the 10th of June 1756. Sadly, the text is difficult to impossible. There are underlined places, but the text above is mostly gone. The Governor
had received the Sachem's message. He noted that General Johnson did not think he had enough troops to protect the frontier Indians and suggested that
Pennsylvania do it. The Governor had ordered the Commander of the Shamokin troops to do his best to do that. Morris encouraged the Sachem to come
to Philadelphia so they could speak face to face, assuring him it would be safe for him to travel. (Digitized from a microfilm copy held at the
Pennsylvania State Historical Society)
