1760-08-15, Heads of the Indian Treaty (MS)
Wrapper: Heads of an Indian treaty at Pittsburgh Aug. 15, 1760. Header: same text in reverse order. The Beaver King spoke first. He was pleased
with the General's speech and especially pleased to meet so many other tribes. He told the General that requests for land around the forts to grow
food should be directed to the Six Nations. He would go to Philadelphia next summer. Delaware George asked the General to think of how to protect the
women and children. Teedyuscung was drunk and tried to get others to speak for him, but they ignored him. Later in the proceedings, the other
Delaware removed him as King and Chief. On August 16th, the Delaware delivered eight prisoners as a gesture of good will. On August 17th, the General
delivered the bundles of presents, size determined by the number of a tribe present. On August 18th, the General scolded Langdale about his disparaging
remarks about the presents and the General was not happy in Langdale's role in the beaver pelt fiasco. They discussed Teedyuscung's mis-use of the
wampum belts. There followed a list of the eight tribes present, plus the Six Nations for a total of 680 adult males plus women and children. (Digitized
