1756-10-11, Intelligence related by Ogaghradarisha (MS)
Wrapper: Copy Intelligence of Ogaghradarisha given at Shamokin 11 Oct. 1756 Header: Intelligence, etc. related by Ogaghradarisha [here after
Ogagh] one of the Indian Chiefs of the Six Nations who arrived at Fort Augusta on Monday, 11 Oct. 1756 at 3 o'clock PM, at which time Montour and Tagria
were in the woods, who did not return until 7 o'clock PM and then I heard what he had to communicate. Ogagh was lately at Diahogo and learned the
English had destroyed Kittanning, so a force of 1,000 French and Indians were on their way to attack Fort Augusta--this was a warning. He passed on
several greetings and said there would be a big Council soon. As he came down the river, he encountered many Delaware. One wanted him to smoke some
vermilion tobacco, but Ogagh refused. He decided the Delawares professed peace and friendship, but they did not mean it at all. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy held at the Pennsylvania State Historical Society)
