Description and Holding Information
1756-02-22, Private conversation between C. Weiser and J. Sachneckdoras (MS)
Weiser invited Sachneckdoras and his wife to breakfast in Philadelphia. Weiser had apparently known the man and his father for many years. Weiser
basically pumped him for information about the hostilities and encouraged his friend to speak freely. The Delaware forewarned the Indians along the
Susquehanna to move to the northeast branch of the river. After some wandering, most ended up in Wyomissing. The Indians, including chief Scaroody,
argued with the Delaware, but they were rude, threatening, and refused to listen. Now the Delaware, between 100 and 200 men, have gone north to
hide. They probably will head for Ohio. He did not know if they had canoes. The Delaware were angry about past killings of their people, without
compensation, and felt cheated in most of the land deals. Weiser's friend somehow ended up with two hostages, whom he will return. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy held at the Pennsylvania State Historical Society)
