1755-11-19, C. Weiser to Gov. Morris (MS)
Wrapper: Conrad Weiser to Governor Morris, Heidelburgh, November 19, 1755. This letter was very neatly written, so it my have been done after the fact. Weiser was notifying the Governor about Indian attacks near his home and the local people's fierce, but untrained response. Two towns had come together to field a force of about 150 men, but they needed ammunition and food supplies. The Lancastrians were especially vocal about lack of supplies and the low pay for serving as guards in outlying areas and had accused Weiser of selling out the settlers.
Version 2 Wrapper: Copy of Conrad Weiser's letter to the Governor relating to the murders near Tulpenhacon November 19, 1755. This copy is not nearly as neat as the first one. Weiser had been in Philadelphia and rode as fast as he could to Reading. There, all was confusion and fear. He got home two days later and was met by his sons with a long story of the deaths, especially of women and children. There were problems with untrained fighters. Weiser asked for guns and ammunition. (Digitized from a microfilm copy held at the Pennsylvania State Historical Society)
