1755, Petition from settlers living near the mouth of Penn's Creek ... (MS)
October 20, 1755 To the Honorable Robert Hunter Morris, Lt. Governor of the Province of Pennsylvania. Seventeen men petitioned for arms to defend
their settlement along John Penn's Creek [short way west of the Susquehanna River and just south of Lewisburg] On October 16, 1755, the settlers were
attacked by Indians, who killed several, kidnapped several, and burned many houses. Only one man escaped. The men were willing to defend the land,
but needed weapons. (Digitized from a microfilm copy held at the Pennsylvania State Historical Society)
