October 20, 1755 To the Honorable Robert Hunter Morris, Lt. Governor of the Province of Pennsylvania. Seventeen men petitioned for arms to defend
their settlement along John Penn's Creek [short way west of the Susquehanna River and just south of Lewisburg] On October 16, 1755, the settlers were
attacked by Indians, who killed several, kidnapped several, and burned many houses. Only one man escaped. The men were willing to defend the land,
