SEE ALSO 56673, 56675 Wrapper: Copy 16 May 1755 Col. Dunbar's letter to Governor Morris. Header: From the camp near the Great Crossing July 16, 1755. Dunbar had received the papers and map. He was now in charge of 300 wounded officers and men because so many officers were killed. All the soldiers would pull back. He planned to leave some of the wounded at Fort Cumberland and had told the road builders to evacuate. He would send a description of the catastrophe when he was able. He asked the Governor to ready quarters, with a hospital, for about 100 officers and 1200 men. He closed by saying he had never had such hardship in his life.
