House No. 84 On March 16, 1841, the Joint Standing Committee on Accounts submitted a bill: An Act to establish the Office of Auditor of Accounts, 1841. Each January, the auditor would be chosen by a vote of both houses. The Governor, Council, and Treasurer would approve the choice. At a salary of $1200/year, the auditor would provide a performance bond and examine, audit, and arrange all accounts against the Commonwealth. He would annually report the activities of his office to the Legislature. No warrant would be paid until it had been audited.
