Senate. Comm. on Towns. Report on the Marshpee District, 1836
|
|
Senate No. 86. On April 8, 1836, the Committee on Towns remarked on the report of the Commissioner of the Marshpee Indians. The affairs of the tribe seemed to be going very well--its financials were good, the schools were excellent--the only problem was the people did not like the preacher sent them by Harvard University, so they did not attend church. The Committee encouraged the use of the Marshpee system for other tribes, especially the Chappaquidic Indians, who were in diasarray. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
