These reports did not include much data; that was done by other groups. The Committee could, and did, ask for certain appropriations, especially for
large projects, such as new heating and a new wing to ameliorate overcrowding.
**1861 Fortieth Legislature. Senate. No. 5. Report of the Committee
on Insane Hospital [1861] The Committee had made several visits to the facility during the year. It was a worthy institution, careful not to allow
abuse of the 250 patients. However, ventilation was all but non-existent. The Trustees had researched a plan to fix this; the Committee absolutely
agreed and offered a Resolve: appropriate $10,000 to install steam boilers and fans to fix the ventilation problem at the Insane Hospital.

**1864 Forty-third Legislature. Senate. No. 24. The Joint Standing Committee visited the hospital several times, sometimes with
notice and sometimes without; the group always found the facility doing a good job. It was now becoming crowded. Resolved: Hire an architect to
prepare plans for a new wing. Please add $100 per year to the chaplain's salary; he was woefully underpaid.
**1865 Forty-fourth Legislature. Senate.
No. 24. Report of the Committee on the Insane Hospital. The hospital bought land to expand the farm. Its crews made repairs during the summer, but
more needed doing. Resolve in favor of the insane hospital: Appropriate $2,500 for the repairs on the list attached.
**1866 Forty-fifth
Legislature. Senate. No. 11 Report of Committee on Insane Hospital [1866] The Joint Committee said the Superintendent was doing a good job, but the
overcrowding in the female quarters was detrimental to recovery. Resolve: appropriate $31,500 to complete and furnish the new space.(Digitized from a microfilm
