June 4, 1849 report of the Committee on HOuse Elections regarding the contested election between Henry Carter and Wendell P. Smith and others as
representative in Portland. After reviewing the evidence regarding Carter's residence, location for taxes, and election count, the committee determined
that Carter was not a residence in Portland during te required time and not entitled to the seat. The minority report was also attached. (Digitized
from a microfilm copy of titles originally held the Library of Congress).
