Oldtown, 1858, Superintending School Comm. Report on promotion of education of the Penobscot Indians

Thirty-seventh Legislature. Senate. No. 1 On December 31, 1857, the three man Superintending School Committee reported on the schools for Penobscot
Indians. There were two schools on two different islands. The male teacher made $40 per month, and two female teachers made $4.50 per week. The
ages of attendees were 6-35. The local priest had changed his mind and encouraged attendance. There were details about who read at what grade level;
most students had made good progress in all subjects. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
