Semi-annual register of magistrates in the State of Maine. These lists were published semi-annually in June and December. There were thousands of
names of justices of the peace, justices of the peace and quorum, trial justices, and notaries public. There were no explanations of their duties or
how they came by their offices. Most of the pages were of magistrates arranged by county, with a name, town of residence, and date of certification
for each category of officer. The second publication seemed to be those who were recently certified or missed in the first list. (Digitized from a
