Fortieth Legislature. House. No. 12. On February 1, 1861, Israel Washburn, Jr. submitted a statement showing the amount the State had paid to send Maine's blind and hearing-impaired students to out-of-state schools from 1850-1860. There were many more deaf children than blind. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine Historical Society Library, the Maine State Library, and the Library of Congress).
